Pat began performing on guitar at age twelve, and has been part of various rock bands, acoustic ensembles, church groups, a solo performer and more.  He has provided private guitar lessons on request for over twenty years.  Pat is in his fourth year of teaching at this current location.

Most of his time in front of audiences, regardless of musical accompaniment or variety, has been performing songs he has written.  One of Pat’s compositions was purchased by a New York playwright to be included in an upcoming musical. His song Peace was the featured soundtrack to a video developed by the United Nation's for World Peace Day in 2018.  The video was distributed to UN Information Centers in 63 countries.

Music composition has afforded Pat insight into varying aspects of what makes learning music worthwhile. He recognized how playing guitar provides a method to express ideas, emotions, dreams, and beliefs, and enjoy the passing of time.

This is the intention he brings to It's All About the Music:  To help students learn to play in order to discover, express, share, and rejoice in their own unique gifts and perspectives. His students have ranged in age from 6 to 69 years old.  Pat’s students are currently studying acoustic and electric guitar.

His musical influences range from the Beatles to Bach; Intricate finger-style arrangements to basic strumming along.  Pat's inspired by the amazing lyrics and melodies of Benjamin Gibbard, Todd Rundgren, Neil Young, Jakob Dylan, Billy McLaughlin, Jackson Browne, Shawn Colvin, and so many more.

Pat provides in-person lessons at It's All About the Music in Watertown, along with virtual lessons for students in upstate New York, Texas, Idaho and, of course, South Dakota. Local virtual lessons are also available as needed.

He and his wife Helen have been married since 1985.  They have two children.
